Write for Emergence

This is meant to be the place people go for E-Day, and one person cannot cover a whole game. If you know something well, we would rather publish your version than a worse one written by somebody who had to look it up.

What we are after

The bar is usefulness, not polish. We will handle the editing. What we cannot fix is a piece that does not know what it is trying to say, so lead with the point.

Build breakdowns

A loadout you actually run, and the reasoning. Why these mods, what you gave up, when it falls apart.

Mode and map knowledge

How a mode really plays past the tutorial. Rotations, timings, the thing everyone gets wrong.

Testing and numbers

You measured something. Tell us the method and we will publish the method alongside the result.

News and patch reaction

Something changed and you understand the consequence better than the patch note does.

What we will send back

Numbers with no source

If you state a damage figure, say where it came from. "Feels like" is fine as an opinion, not as a stat.

Reposted content

Someone else's work, or a summary of a video without credit. Link the original and add something.

Tier lists with no argument

A ranking is only worth reading if you say why. The order is the conclusion, not the article.

How to submit

1

Send a rough draft, not a pitch

We would rather read 400 messy words on a real idea than a polished paragraph describing an article you have not written. Plain text, a doc, a Discord message. It does not matter.

2

Say how you want to be credited

Name or handle, and a link if you want one. Your byline goes on the piece and stays there. You keep the right to repost your own work anywhere else.

3

We edit it with you, not at you

You see the edit before it goes up. If we change something that alters your meaning, we will flag it and ask rather than quietly reword it.

4

It goes live and gets maintained

When a patch invalidates part of your piece we will tell you, and you get first refusal on updating it before anyone else touches it.

House rules on facts

The one thing this site is strict about: nothing gets estimated and presented as measured. If a number could not be established, the page says so. That is the whole reason to trust anything here, and it applies to contributors exactly as it applies to us.

  • State the mode a number came from. Horde and Versus values differ, sometimes by more than double, and most published figures floating around are Versus.
  • Separate what you tested from what you concluded. Both are welcome. Mixing them is not.
  • If you are unsure, write "unconfirmed". Nobody will think less of you, and it saves a correction later.

Worth saying There is no application and no audition. If you send something usable, it gets published. First-time writers are not a lower priority than regulars.
