Nobody can buy the Gibson guitars

Three are prizes in a draw that closes October 9. The controller, the Lancer replica and the Design Lab artwork all have a price on them. The guitars do not.

The run-up to October 6, 2026 has produced a controller, a replica rifle and four electric guitars. The controller and the replica have prices. The guitars do not.

The guitars

Gibson and The Coalition announced a custom guitar collection on Xbox Wire on August 19, 2026. These are working Gibson electrics, not display props. There are two designs: a Les Paul for Marcus Fenix and an SG for Dominic Santiago.

Which Gibson models they are is less settled than it looks. The promotion’s rules call them a Les Paul Special and an SG Standard. Gibson’s own account of the build quotes Preece ordering two Les Paul Studios and two SG Specials. Both sources are official. They cannot both be right, so take the model names lightly. What they agree on is the rest: an Ebony finish, delivered unlacquered with the hardware stripped out so the paint would sit properly.

Illustrator Luke Preece drew both designs by hand and painted the instruments himself. The two lean on what the developers call the Emotional Core pillars: Brutality for Marcus, Pathos for Dom. The collection was shown publicly at the Xbox booth at gamescom in Cologne.

Three of the four are prizes

Luke Preece, in the announcement

“Only four guitars were made. Each is numbered and signed, and because they were painted by hand, even the repeated designs are not exact copies. Every instrument is a unique, one-of-one piece.”

Three of the four are being given away: two Marcus Les Pauls and one Dom SG. What happens to the fourth has not been said.

There is no price

There is no retail price because there is no retail. The only money figure attached to any of them sits in the sweepstakes terms, which put the value of each guitar at £3,000. That is the number a prize draw has to declare, not a number anyone is charging. If you find a price for one of these somewhere, it is a guess.

The rules are published at promoterms.com/GearsofWarGibson. The promoter is Microsoft Ltd of Reading, UK. Entry runs on Instagram from August 19 to October 9, 2026, entrants must be 18 or over, it is one entry per person, and there are three winners.

Xbox Wire says the winners will be announced on October 16, 2026. The rules themselves never give that date. They say the draw happens within five working days of the close, which is a different promise. Both matter. Only the rules bind.

Why a guitar

Composer Adam Lastiwka recorded the E-Day score on Gibson guitars. That is why the collaboration exists.

The thread

One artist’s work runs through the guitars, the Collector’s Edition case and Design Lab.

One artist keeps turning up

The guitars are not a one-off. The store credits Preece with the SteelBook case in the Collector’s Edition, and from September 30 his artwork goes onto Xbox Design Lab as an exclusive you can put on a controller you build yourself. One artist, three products, inside about six weeks.

What you can buy

The Limited Edition Xbox Wireless Controller was announced on August 12, 2026 at $89.99 and ships September 30, 2026. The shell is cracked asphalt with red glowing through the cracks and the Crimson Omen on the front. The X button and the D-pad are transparent red, and the battery door is a metallic COG tag.

Pre-orders for a 1:1 Prototype Lancer replica opened on August 20, 2026 at $299.99. It measures 36 by 14 by 8 inches, weighs 6 lb, is molded in ABS and PVC with hand-painted weathering, and comes with a display stand. It has to be ordered on its own and will not check out alongside anything else.

A dash means no price has been published for it, not that it is free.

The two Lancer shipping windows are not a typo. Orders placed before 1:15 PM PDT on August 20 ship in November 2026. Everything after that is February 2027. Several write-ups printed February 2026. The store says 2027.

Two different things at $299.99

The Collector’s Edition costs $299.99 as well, and it is not the Lancer replica. It is the game plus the box: a 15-inch diorama statue of Marcus and Dom, a 1:1 replica of Carlos Santiago’s COG tags, a lithograph, an in-game photo, and a SteelBook case designed by Luke Preece. The replica is a display piece on its own, with no game attached to it. Several write-ups have run the two together, usually by putting the replica’s photograph next to the edition’s price.

On August 30, 2026 the Collector’s Edition was listed as out of stock on the Xbox Game Studios Shop in both the US and the EU. Whether that is permanent has not been said.

If you are working out which version to buy rather than which object to put on a shelf, that is a different question, covered in every edition and what you get. The guitars were shown at the same event as the story trailer.
