Recap: the September 30 Los Angeles event
Xbox put an Emergence Hole and a Corpser statue at Hollywood & Vine and let the first 500 people through the door play the game the day before early access. Nothing about the launch changed.

On September 21, 2026, Joe Skrebels, Editor-in-Chief of Xbox Wire, announced a one-night Gears of War: E-Day takeover at Hollywood & Vine in Los Angeles on Xbox Wire. It ran September 30 from 3 PM to 10 PM. An Emergence Hole and a Corpser statue went up at the intersection, and the game was playable there before early access began.
Who got in
Entry was first come, first served, and stopped at the first 500 guests. Everyone had to be 18 or older. The post tied that to the game’s M (Mature) rating. The queue opened at 12 PM Pacific, three hours before the doors. Anyone wearing Gears of War merchandise got a fast line.
The post did not mention tickets, registration or a price. It gave no address beyond the intersection.
What was there
- The game, playable ahead of early access.
- Themed food, treats and drinks. The post called them free.
- Airbrush Gears of War tattoos and a photo booth.
- Prizes for people who came in Gears of War merchandise or cosplay. One of them was an Xbox Design Lab E-Day controller designed by Luke Preece, the artist behind the Gibson guitars.
What it did not change
This was a fan event and not a product announcement. The launch dates stood: pre-install September 29, early access October 1, launch October 6, all at 8 AM Pacific. They are in the gone gold article.
The post said nothing new about the game itself. It did not say which version was playable, whether that was the early access one, which modes were on offer, or how long a session lasted. It named one city and one night, and no other way to take part.
